For more than six decades and three generations Fanourgaki’s family has been engaged in olive tree growing in the greater area of Stoli in central Messara, that includes the largest and most fertile plain on Crete. Now with respect to the tradition and the values of this blessed place and with reverent upholding of all modern agricultural practices (cerified for zero remain of pesticides), we produce our extra virgin olive oil from a large number of privately owned olive trees, as well as select producers of our family and our region.
Our olive trees are solely the famous Koroneiki variety, which has been described by experts as the most important variety of olive trees in the world for the production of high-quality olive oil. The standardization and packaging of our products are done in our modern private premises. The whole process is certified by ISO 22000 for hygiene and food safety and our products are certified by Agrocert the state body responsible for the protected designation of origin, P.D.O. Messara.
Due to high specifications (olive harvest , transportation, processing, kneading of the olive paste-cold extraction, storage in stainless steel tanks) we are able to present an ultra premium and multi- awarded (7 international awards in 2017) extra virgin olive oil, with the finest quality (e.g. acidity 0,19% for this year harvest), special and unique organoleptic characteristics, such as the fruity aroma, the excellent taste and the bitter aftertaste.
This latter feature along with the pungent and spicy character is due to very high concentration of polyphenols (1050mg/Kg) that far exceed the limit of 250 mg/Kg of the European Regulation 432/2012 for an olive oil to have the health claim. It should be noted that the polyphenols and especially oleocanthal and oleacein presents important biological activity and they have been related with cardioporotective, neuroprotective, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, according to a great number of medical researches that have been published last years.
For all the above is worth noting the top distinctions of our extra virgin olive oil in the London International Olive Oil Competition, with the platinum award in the category health claim (the only Greek olive oil with such a great award) and the gold standard of excellence in the Olympia awards and the World Olive Centre with the cooperation of the Pharmacognosy Lab of the Athens’ Uninersity.
Our products are available in glass bottles of 250, 500 and 750 ml. They also come in cylindrical tinplate pack of 500, 750 and 1000ml as well as in rectangular tinplate pack of 0.5, 1, 3 and 5 liters.
